Secretariat of the Commission
The Secretariat of the National Commission for Scheduled Tribes (NCST) functions as the administrative and operational wing of the Commission, providing essential support for the discharge of its constitutional mandate under Article 338A of the Constitution of India. Headed by the Secretary to the Govt. of India, it assists the Chairperson, Vice-Chairperson, and Members in investigation and monitoring of safeguards for Scheduled Tribes, inquiry into complaints, policy review, research and studies, coordination with Central and State Governments, and implementation of welfare and development programmes. The Secretariat also manages administration, finance, legal matters, grievance redressal, parliamentary work, and field coordination through its six Regional Offices located in Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, Jaipur, Raipur, Ranchi, and Shillong, thereby ensuring effective functioning of the Commission and strengthening tribal governance across India.
